New Summerside Marketing Company Launches
Youth Entrepreneurship Contest

SUMMERSIDE, April 19, 2010 – A company that is expanding to Summerside is offering free office space to the city’s young entrepreneurs. On Three Communication Design is a Canadian marketing firm with head offices in Hamilton, Ontario. The company is currently looking at office space in Summerside, and has come up with an innovative contest to help young people start business ventures as part of the company’s relocation.

“On Three is a small firm, so when we looked at expanding our operations to Summerside, we knew that we would be dividing our time between offices,” explains Jim McGimpsey, one of the partners at On Three. “We got to thinking about the best ways to use our new Summerside location given our part-time schedule on the East Coast.” The company decided to share its new space with young entrepreneurs, and has launched a contest to help determine its new co-tenants.

“We didn’t want the office to ever sit empty,” says On Three’s Heather Ciere, “So why not open our doors to some enthusiastic young people? It’s a win-win: they get a business launchpad where they can hold meetings and grow their new companies and we get to make the best use of our new location while growing ours.”

Ciere and McGimpsey also plan to offer free marketing and business planning support for the contest winners. They will be accepting applications from interested youth and striking a committee of local business people to help evaluate the proposals and select up to three young entrepreneurs. On Three has completed recent projects for InvestPEI and SRDC, and has worked extensively with the City of Summerside’s Economic Development Department. They are the minds behind Summerside’s award-winning television spots that aired during the Canada Games, as well as the Summerside branding initiative and the innovative “Brick” Health IT Recruitment Campaign.

“The growth and the opportunity in Atlantic Canada is what motivated our decision to expand to Summerside,” explains McGimpsey. “We have enjoyed our work on the Island immensely, and it’s time to make it official and continue to grow our business here.” The company plans to open its doors in June 2010.
